Charity Commission New Format Operational Guidance

Operational Guidance (we call them OGs) covers our policy and practice based on charity law. OGs are written for our staff to help them carry out their work in a fair and consistent way. Because we are committed to conducting our work as openly as possible, we publish OGs on our website as well as internally.

If you're a trustee looking for guidance on the different aspects of managing and running your charity, you might prefer to look at the range of guidance written with you in mind – either go back to the main Charity Commission website window and go to 'Charity requirements and guidance' or click here to link to the list of guidance for trustees (this opens in a new window).

The window you are in now is dedicated to Operational Guidance written in the latest format. It is designed to make the legal background to our policy clearer and for staff to access more easily the information to help them as they take forward a case. We are in the process of transferring our OGs to this new format. The project may take a while so please bear with us. During this transition period there will be some original and some 'new format' OGs. In most cases the law and policy have not changed, but when we reformat an OG we take the opportunity to review it and make any updates necessary. You might need to update your 'favourites' as guidance is transferred to the new format.
