Options on our website

Text Size
 Text sizes available

Find the 3 ‘A’ buttons at the very top of the page. You can click on them to change the size of the website text. The largest ‘A’ button (on the right) gives the largest text.

Colour Contrast

 Contrast options available

You can read this website in black and white by clicking on the View in black and white button, at the top of the page. If you prefer to see the website in high contrast, click on the View yellow text on black background button for yellow text on a black background. These two options are text only. This View in full colour button returns the website to full colour with images.

Listening to website content

You can download free software to hear website content read out to you. Look at Listen to our website for further information.

‘Skip to content’ option

This link is useful if you are using screen reading software. If you select it, your reading software will skip past the menus and start reading at the beginning of the main page content.

Options on your computer

Below we explain some of the main things which you can change on your computer to view websites more easily. However, there are lots of different options. For more detailed information, please look at the BBC My Web My Way site.

If you use Internet Explorer

To change text size:

  • Open the ‘View’ menu (or press ‘Alt’ and ‘V’)
  • Select ‘text size’ (or select by pressing X)
  • Choose the text size you prefer
  • Click to select the text size (or press ‘Enter’)

To change colours:

  • Open the ‘Tools’ menu (or press ‘Alt’ and ‘T’)
  • Select ‘Internet Options’ (or press ‘O’)
  • Select ‘Accessibility’ (or press ‘Alt’ and ‘E’)
  • Select ‘Ignore colours specified on webpages’ (or press ‘Alt’ and ‘C’)
If you use Firefox

To change text size:

  • Open the ‘View’ menu
  • Select ‘Text Size’
  • Select ‘Increase’ or ‘Decrease’

To change colours:

  • Open the ‘Tools’ menu (or press ‘Alt’ and ‘T’)
  • Select ‘Options’ (or press ‘O’)
  • Click on the content tab
  • Select your preferred options.
If you use Safari

To change text size

  • Open the ‘View’ menu
  • Click on ‘Make Text Bigger’ or ‘Make Text Smaller’

Safari does not yet have options to change text and background colours.
