The Regulator for Charities in England and Wales
How to engage the public in charities and the work that they do, be it in the form of donations, volunteering, or as beneficiaries, has never been more pertinent than in the current financial climate. In October 2008 the Commission held two seminars inviting a wide range of charities to come together to discuss the findings and implications of a survey we commissioned which examined at levels of public trust and confidence in charities.
Chaired by John Williams, a Charity Commission Board Member, the first event was held in London on 14 October, the second in Liverpool on 22 October.
The Commission would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the seminars, particularly the speakers who generously gave their time to share their views and experiences.
A summary of the speeches from both events, and the discussions held with the delegates, can be found below.
Please note that this is a summary of the discussions held on the day and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Charity Commission or the wider charity sector, nor is this an exhaustive list of all of the relevant issues.
