Charities Act 2006: Updated implementation plan

Office of the Third Sector has published an updated implementation plan on their website. This will confirm that the commencement order for the second phase of the Charities Act 2006 will be made shortly. The two areas covered by this order are the provisions dealing with:

• mergers of charities and the Register of Mergers, which will commence in November; and
• changes to fundraising statements, which we anticipate will come into effect in January 2008.

The revised timetable for implementation of the Act also shows the provisions due to come in during the rest of 2008 and beyond.
