The Regulator for Charities in England and Wales
(Immediate Release - 16 June 2009)

The Charity Commission , the regulator of charities in England and Wales, is adding more information to the online Register of charities, making it clearer where a charity has been the subject of an inquiry or regulatory case report, or where an interim manager is in place.
From today, where a charity has been the subject of an inquiry report or a regulatory case report, a link from the charity’s entry on the online Register of charities will take you to the relevant document. The link will remain for six months, the length of time that inquiry reports and regulatory case reports already stay on the Commission’s website.
The Register of Charities will also now 'flag' when an interim manager has been appointed to a charity by the Charity Commission. This provides their name and contact details, provides additional information about their function and indicates whether the appointment is to the exclusion of other trustees.
Andrew Hind, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission said;
“We have been making inquiry reports and regulatory case reports available on the website for some time, but now we are increasing visibility by adding the link to the charity’s register entry. This is all part of the Commission’s drive to make information about charities more accessible, particularly to the public.
A recent survey of users of the Commission’s website has shown that whilst the majority of visitors are staff or volunteers for charities, one in five visitors are members of the public, and the top reason for visiting is to find information on charities. This is a short-term marker that makes it clearer where there has been an inquiry or regulatory case report published which we hope will be useful for all visitors to our website.”
Ends.
