The Regulator for Charities in England and Wales

Commission Smoke Free Policy

The Smoke-free Law came into effect on 1 July 07, which saw England go smoke free in keeping with the rest of the UK and Ireland. The Commission will therefore be:

  • Ensuring we comply with the requirements of the Health Act 2006, Smoke-free (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations 2006, Smoke-free (Exemptions and Vehicles) Regulations 2007, Smoke-free (Signs) Regulations 2007 and other related legislation by 1 July 2007;
  • prohibiting smoking throughout our offices, with the exclusion area including the immediate vicinity of the buildings, car parks and any vehicle used for work purposes (e.g. hire cars);
  • displaying clearly visible no smoking signs at all our locations to ensure all employees, contractors, service users, customers and visitors are aware of our compliance with the policy;
  • advising potential applicants and new recruits of our policy though recruitment packs and new entrant induction programmes; taking disciplinary action, where appropriate, in cases of non-compliance with the policy.
